The Information Theory Chapter aims to promote local activities in information theory and related fields, and serve as a bridge between the IEEE Information Theory Society and the local community. The Chapter sponsors technical seminars and conferences from time to time. Chapter members are active researchers and students in the field.

The 2006 Information Theory Society Best Chapter Award was awarded to the Hong Kong IT Soceity Chapter.
